The Performance

Male - Female / Female - Male is the third part of the latest Shadow Casters’ trilogy On Togetherness. The performance separates worlds, believing that the safety of conversation provides clearer insight and better understanding: therefore, performers-authors and the audience are separated. What emerges here bright and clear – through the male-female, female-male, male-male and female-female encounter, through befriending stereotypes and taking part in their unmasking, through shifting the perspective onto the other (male or female), and through playing with the weird – are the similarities in differences and the differences in similarities that usually escape us.

In this quest for new answers to those eternal questions about female and male that we keep posing to ourselves, the audience, through its own choice, is an equal partner with the performers. The performance is a journey through mutual opening, conversations, songs, dance, laughter and tears. It is an adventure on which everybody embarks with a specific luggage of ideas and prejudices, only to be surprised by the end of the show with the luggage’s new content. The performance’s cast is made up of spectacular Croatian and Bosnian actors and actresses, famous from theatre, film and TV shows. Every performance is unique and inimitable.

The Production

Bacači sjenki (Shadow Casters) is an international artistic and production platform founded in 2002 in Zagreb. It is dedicated to interdisciplinary collaboration, creation and exploration, as well as the reflection of new artistic languages, especially in the domain of performing arts, urban and public art and new media and its hybrids. Bacači sjenki questions the existing concepts of individual and collective identity, instigating the debate on the nature and contradictions of the ongoing globalization process and dealing with those social, political and cultural issues that reveal the acute problems and issues of a modern society.
